DIVERSITEC’S MAZE REGENERATION PROPOSAL
This project symbolizes the core elements that are needed to carry Northern Ireland into the future. Our vision sees
the integration of ideas, channelling them into a creative force, harnessing both innovation and positivity. This
project has endless potential to unite, to bridge across the divide of states, islands, young and old, past and future.
The proposed development comprises:
This will act as an international showcase bringing together:
- Culture, Heritage and Craft
- Performing Arts
- Imax cinema
These elements will be linked with Irelands Atlantic Seaport neighbours, Great Britain, Portugal, Spain and France,
making the Maze site a new centre of the isles, creating a holistic nucleus for cultural exchange. This centre
will be enhanced with cultural displays from each of the countries and the introduction of specialist native retail outlets,
including food, drink, fashion and crafts.
The development of this centre aims to unite citizens of different countries and facilitate the resultant
cultural interaction and encourage integration. Each sector of the community will also benefit from the removal of barriers between them.
The prospect of bringing the Massey Ferguson museum to the Maze is also being investigated.
To link with the agricultural safari park and provide an international element, the Hub will provide a real time cinema link with the plains of Africa.
AN AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE:
This will comprise of three halls, these would form a permanent exhibition and promotional function as well as being an ideal venue for a major agricultural event. There is a unique possibility of developing a virtual agricultural and tourism community with the Hub as its physical focal centre. This would unite and facilitate e-based learning within an isolated community, as well as encouraging rural communication in countries of the Atlantic area.
THE GREEN LUNG:
This characterises an agricultural safari park on existing farm land creating a green barrier between the site and Lisburn. This will provide a chance to showcase rare breeds and agricultural heritage and ensure our ever urbanised youth are able to see and understand the importance and role of agriculture.
With potential anchor tenants including Rugby and Hockey and Gaelic football, aside from a first division football team this facility will have something for everyone! The stadium will be a centre of sporting excellence, providing first class training for tomorrow’s international sporting stars through a Youth Sporting Academy. A world class name has expressed an interest in establishing a one off high quality themed hotel and conference centre to complement the other attractions.
Every aspect of the stadium will be utilised, for example the space beneath the seats may be used to house standard accommodation for the youth groups using the stadium, while the remaining area could be used for business facilities.
While the youth have been catered for, the elderly will also benefit from excellent provisions. Merrie Gardens Partnership will provide high spec Care facilities in the form of a Retirement Village and Private Hospital. This gate development will also host recreational and leisure amenities such as bowling greens.
The Maze site will be easily accessible by all, public transport in the form of buses and trains will regularly service the site. A monorail (akin to one in development in Cardiff at the moment) will also connect to the site. This location will be united to the whole of Ireland, North and South by a sophisticated infrastructure of transport links.
Space has been allocated for housing on the site; however this part of the master plan remains fluid to allow for any alterations or additions which may occur.
This proposal for the redevelopment of the Maze site is unique in that it is all inclusive for all members of society and will bring repayment in many forms for all stakeholders.
The community element in this project is truly international. All inhabitants of our global village have the potential to profit from this development. Benefit from the centre will be diffused in the form of shared knowledge, unity between cultures and the elimination of political bias.
The Maze project offers great opportunity for a broad spectrum of potential investors. There will be total inclusion of private investors; this will range from local farmers to multi national companies.
State authorities have an important role to play in the redevelopment of the Maze site. This project is both economically sound and feasible. With a partnership approach delivery of the proposal will be more easily attainable.
In short, this project will deliver…
